GENDER SECRET

A friend commissioned me to make a baby quilt.
Well that's always fun.
This time the parents DO NOT
want to know the gender of their baby, before birth.

That being said...the challenge was on!
My friend came by to pick out the gender neutral fabrics
from my stash.

Kate and Birdie Bluberry Park

She selected the Perfect 10 pattern...by Swirly Girl Designs
This is one of my all time favorite patterns
and it works up so sweet with a novelty fabric like this!
Check it out 👶

Had some fabric left for a pop of color on the back.

She also wanted the quilting to be a FMQ meander!
I love this quilting design on a baby quilt,
Cause when it's washed...the crinkles happen!

All done except for the label...
We will all find out the gender next March!

40 years ago, when I was pregnant,
we never had the option of "knowing the gender"
I am glad, because I think it makes the
whole experience and anticipation...
very exciting!

What about you...do ya want to know the gender?

KWiLTY SHOW

My first solo quilt show has come and gone!
I am reviewing my journal to see what
the visitors had to say about their experience.

Today I will share some photos of the 16 pieces
I had in the show at
Inniswood Metro Gardens
Westerville, OH
November, 2017

Two of my favorite quilt EVER!
COMMA.JUST.COMMA and
CHURNING BY THE SEA

MY ARTIST BIO
it's tough to write something about yourself
so I had a friend fine tune it.

Some of my older wall hangings.
I have been quilting for almost 30 years.

Red Beauty Bird is a simple 9 patch
and an appliqued red bird on a branch

Three wall hangings on the right include
two flowers that were
Paint Chip Challenges, and an
Autumn Harvest Sampler

Here is a view of the entire wall.
I sold the pink coneflower wall hanging.

This wall shows
Woodland Fairies...SOLD
A Mystery Quilts pattern called Cat's Meow,
but I named the quilt, Dreaming of Hawaii
(I call this my transitional piece between Traditional to Modern)
Modern quilting had not raised its pretty head yet.

and  a Nested Churn Dash called
"That's My Business"

And this wall featured some of my most current pieces.
Florence the Flamingo
Hattie the Hedgehog
A Charley Harper wall hanging
Charley Harper Chickadees - Swoon Block "hack"
My Ghastlies quilt that was featured
in the Alexander Henry booth at Spring, Quilt Market, 2017

The emotion I felt once all quilts were hung and I
could see them in one place, was overwhelming.

They spoke to me to say
You are a quilter, you do have talent
and you should continue this journey as long as possible.
(and your Mom would be so very proud of you)

Thanks for joining me today!
But more important than that...
Thank you for all the support and friendship
that you have given me in person,
here on my blog and on Instagram!

A GHASTLIE BLACK FRIDAY

Isn't "Black Friday" a perfect day to talk Ghastlies?
Cyber Monday is coming and lots of online
stores have the new panels in Potion Blue...
Of course, I couln't wait and have ordered
a couple panels!

A Ghastlies Patoral

 A Ghastlies Moment

I joined the #falloweenminiswap2017 over on Instagram.
Some of my much loved and hoarded
Ghastlies...got away!

Made some Economy Blocks...you may call this design
a Square in a Square.
Both are correct.

Here is Sebastian.
Did you know the cat was once a little boy?
Yes!  Two Grislie Sisters got made at Mathilda Ghastlie
and put a spell on her son!  True story!

These Ghastlie witches stirring up more spells?

This moth is about to become a victim of Ghastliness

More Ghastlie women..pondering their next move.

I like the setting of black and gray with a pop of orange!

A bit of orange for a flange in the border...
you know to make it fun!

Sew it all together...

Added some backing and corner tabs for hanging the piece.
Just cut a yard stick the width...place ends in the tab
add command strips
Ta-Da...no holes in the wall or the fabric!

I quilted it with simple straight lines.

add my label...Kwilty Pleasures

And as I quote
@theghastlies (Phllip Deleon, designer)
"A perfectly Ghastly composition"

Coming soon...Ghastlies Christmas Quilt!
You're gonna love it!

A DIFFERENT WAY TO GHASTLIE!

Do you remember the Ghastlie Dolls that came out in 2016?

The Ghastlies - Voodoo Doll Project - 24" x 44" PANEL Quilt Fabrics from www.eQuilter.com

Well of course I have a bunch of them.

However, I did NOT want to make the dolls.
I had other ideas and eventually
found a pale green denim jacket at the thrift store..
added heat and bond to the back of the dolls,
and found a Sebastian and pumpkin
for my jacket back design!

After pressing them onto the jacket
I stitched them down with a buttonhole stitch!

Added a bit of fun to a front pocket!
I need new buttons and I may add more embellishment...
the jacket will tell me.

I also gave my BFF Shirley, this beauty...
She added it to a blue denim cotton shirt.
She took a pocket off the shirt and added some
black stitches to hide the hole.
SMART!

Just because you have fabric that was made for "something"
doesn't mean it shouldn't become "something else!
Create outside the box...especially with Ghastlies!

READY.SET.BAKE

Hey, its me...the Cookie Diva!
Kathy has me back in the kitchen
and good grief, she is making me wear this
GHASTLIES Christmas Apron!

Can you believe that?

She has me bake hundreds of cookies, every year!
Not for her, but for her family.
I told her she may want to include toothbrushes
in their cookie tins!

These cookies freeze nicely for up to 3 months
in her cute little freezer.  Safely tucked away
safe from her hubby...he seldom goes in the basement!

You can find all the Cookie Diva recipes
on the tab above called "Sweet Celebrations"

But for now...
you gotta try these NEW Recipes that will
certainly feed that sweet tooth, we know you have!

Kathy does not like it when I exclude
nuts, peanut butter or other ingredients that could cause
allergic reactions to cookie monsters!
AND nothing is Gluten Free....
Just Sayin!

GET YOUR QUILTY WISHES GRANTED

If you have not joined in the fun on Instagram...
here's another great reason!

The IG quilting community is so generous and sharing.
Not only do they share inspirational ideas
and pictures of projects, but,
For the 3rd year, there has been a sharing of
quilty things that is totally AWESOME!

Everyone uses the picture above and
then in their post...they make their quilty wish and
tagging it #getyourquiltywishesgranted3

IF you see a wish you can grant...you ask the lucky wisher
to send their address to you and you send that wish to them.

I sent out 8 wishes this year of fabric from my stash.
I forgot to take pics of the last 2 but you will get the idea!

And yes, one lucky person received some Ghastlies!
I am very stingy with my Ghastlies
but since I have a large quilt made with this
 OOP Ghastlies Christmas fabric
I parted with some large scraps...

Someone asked for Blue and White scraps...wish granted!

Another good friend wished for scraps..No problem and
I threw in some Anna Marie Horner charms..she luvs her fabric!

Wishes for Pixie Noel, by Tasha Noel...Granted!

Another hexie girl wished from Christmas fabric scraps...Granted!

A newbie quilter asked for Cotton and Steel
and I sent her some cute F8s

And then I posted my wishes.
Allison Glass fabric because...
I had NO Allison Glass in my Stash...
and some quilt books!
THIS is what many peeps sent me..AMAZING!

Allison Glass strips and scraps

More AG scraps and a purse pattern thrown in for good luck!

Allison Glass charms...melt in your mouth yummy!

and more A G scraps

One day's happy mail here.
3 wishes granted.. 2 peeps sent AG fabrics
and 1 peep sent this awesome quilting book!

Another generous peep sent me this book!

and a lovely peep who used to own a fabric/quilt store...
sent me two books!

What a generous IG community...reaching out to one another
to share what we have...gives me hope for humanity.
There is kindness in this world.

If you are reading this and you granted a wish to anyone
Thank you for making this effort a huge success!
It is a wonderful way to #payitforward
