CHURNING BY THE SEA - PART 1

Selecting a pattern for a much loved and hoarded
fabric, like "Flea Market Fancy" by Deniye Schmidt
was really tough for me.
But the CHURN DASH block had to be it!

Simply Retro by Camille Roskelley was the book
with her pattern

HST stacking up nicley

But be careful...I lost one and finally found it...here!

I tried my new Bloc_Loc Ruler for all the trimming....LOVE IT!

Looking good on the design wall!

Pressing a big top on a little board with a little iron
can be tricky!

Stayed tuned for my ocean side photos
of my "Churning by the Sea" top!

WINTER WARMTH - OCEAN ISLE BEACH NC

I must admit...it has been hard getting my head
back into reality...and blogging has taken a hit!

Today is the first day of SPRING...and my
message is about my winter warmth!

After my husbands heart valve replacement last November
THIS was my HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I walked the beach almost every day.
and locals nicknamed me Ms Ohio State!

I also became a seashell hoarder!

I did take my mobile sewing room and made some wonderful
projects, including this lap size
Flea Market Fancy "Churning by the Sea"
will have her own post!

As will my Latitude / Longitude quilt top

We did a LOT of sightseeing...
South Port, NC a wonderful fishing town
along the Cape Fear River

I managed to sew some cute knitting project bags!

and then sightseeing would take over.
This view of Sunset Beach, NC captured on my iPad
is one of my favs!

Every day the ocean, the sky and mother nature
gave us different and magnificent views!

This yarn  reflects the colors quite nicely!
Has not yet been knitted into anything!

I finished a couple other items but you will see
those in other posts!

It was a beautiful couple months with Phil!
Each week I got to spend time with my son, Eric,
in nearby Myrtle Beach, SC
I am truly blessed and very grateful!

At no time did we...feed the alligators!

BEADY BAG LADIES!

Columbus Modern Quilters + Instagram Donations =
"BEADS OF COURAGE BAGS"

An "Arts In Medicine" program that provides handmade bags
and various beads to children with serious illness.
Serving many children and hospitals.   Each time a
child reaches a milestone in their treatments
they receive a "bead" for their "bag".

While we sew the bags, others groups make the beads
and many donate to support this charity.
Read all about Beads of Courage here!

I reached out on Instagram thru  "get you quilty wish granted"
asking IG peeps to send me novelty prints for this effort.

What happened was amazing!!!
Box after box of fabric began appearing on my porch.
All this was donated, all shipped to me, free of charge!

50 pounds of fabric and lots materials to use for the drawstrings!

Even some pretty yarn showed up...

Cbus Modern Quilters planned a sew-in for January
I cut kits for them to have a good start!
100 kits and lots of fabric not even touched.

The following pictures were taken the day of the
CbusMQ gals...please let me know if any are yours
so I can credit your photo.

A local library conference room was set up!

(just a corner of it here)
with machines and food and lots of fun!

Prepared kits and supplies stacked up and ready to sew!

At the end of the day...these bags are ready to be delivered
to Nationwide Children's Hospital!

A ton of fabric was not touched at this event...
but since its a year long effort we are set!

Thank you Columbus Modern Quilters!
A special shout out to Allison Evans,
our charity coordinator!
To all those who came to sew, brought food
and to those who donated fabric and supplies
many children will smile....because of YOU!
